Mot du Jour – 4/22/11
“Je vous en prie” (zhe voos on pree) is the French expression for “It was my pleasure“. Je t’en prie is the more familiar phrasing. This is the most formal way to say “you’re welcome“, probably used for business meetings and such, but you can say it in everyday conversation if you want.
The more common ways to say “you’re welcome” are de rien (“it’s nothing”) and the more informal phrase pas de quoi (…nothing (to thank me for) ) with friends and people you know. If you want to sound posh and polite, say avec plaisir (“with pleasure”) as you give a little bow .
So, dear readers, merci beaucoup for reading my “mots du jour” and have a great weekend!
